Alonzo Ellison, a brilliant (and very distinctive) jazz trumpeter from Austin, TX, is an all-around master of his instrument. His upbeat, funky blend of jazz is always emotionally charged, regardless of the specific mood: confident and exuberant on up-tempo groovers, blistering on bop-oriented technical showcases, sweet and sensitive on ballads, he boasts an effortless, virtuosic technique and a full, supple, muscular tone that is just as powerful in the high register. His original compositions take in elements of straight ahead jazz and R&B. Making greater use of space and developing an infectiously funky rhythmic sense, he finds ways to mimic human vocal inflections by stuttering, slurring his articulations, and employing half-valved sound effects. Alonzo's ability to play moving solos endear him to audiences and demonstrate his affinity with tradition. At a time when jazz is inclining toward academia and repertory orchestras rather than moving forward, he is a reminder of the music's essential quality of boundless invention, using all available means, creating music that is exuberant, swinging, and fun.

Not all practicing is beneficial. If you find yourself getting frustrated a lot during the session, then just go do something else to get your mind off of the music. Remember MUSIC IS 90 % MENTAL AND 10 % PHYSICAL!!!! Don't waste energy when there is no need to!
